General Internship Overview

City Gate Dance Theater offers exciting internship opportunities for college and graduate students seeking experience in arts administration, education, development and marketing. CGDT provides interns interested in dance and arts management the experience of working behind the scenes in Atlanta’s up and coming contemporary ballet company. Interns have the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge of arts management while working closely with the staff and artists of City Gate. Interns will gain in-depth experience in nonprofit administration which can include: basic budgeting, project management, business writing, marketing, donor relations, fundraising, and grant writing.

Internships are hosted year-round. Beginning/End dates will be mutually agreed upon on an individual basis. A minimum commitment of __15__ hours/week is required.

Overall Qualifications:

  • Fantastic attention to detail and time management skills

  • Responsible, reliable, and efficient

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English)

  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and general internet proficiency

  • Background in dance, music, theater, or performing arts is preferred


  • Unlimited dance classes with City Gate Dance Theater

  • Access to cross-training and interaction/mentorship with professional dancers and artistic staff whose diverse backgrounds and experiences provide great insight into life as a professional dancer and various paths to a career in the performing arts

  • Internship hours can be done for college credit -- arrangements for this must be made on behalf of the applicant

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist with all aspects of fundraising including individual and institutional cultivation and stewardship, special events, and donor relationships

  • Research funding opportunities from current and prospective donors and prepare prospect profiles and draft donor communications.

  • Assist with grant proposals and reports to private foundations, government entities, and corporations.

  • Assist with maintenance and outreach for all reward/perks/community fund programs (ex: Kroger Community Rewards, eBay gives, Amazon, etc.).

  • Assist with planning and execution of special events such as pas de duex series, donor receptions, open rehearsals, and documentary screenings, among others.

  • Provide additional administrative assistance as needed to artistic directors.
